2013 Chevy Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition and 60th Anniversary
“427”, the utterance of this number springs up the ears of any car enthusiast that knows his history and the 427 Corvettes have become some of the most coveted examples of American muscle. With the 60th anniversary of the Corvette coming up in 2013, Chevy has decided to bring back the legendary 427 one more time in a special collector’s edition convertible to round out the last year of the current C6 generation. The Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition will make its debut at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ later this month.
Borrowing the the 427ci (7.0L) engine from the Z06, the 427 convertible is pushing 505hp to the rear-wheels and planting 470lb-ft of torque. Only available in a six-speed stick shift, this beauty will definitely blow your hair back with a 0-60mph time expected to be around 3.8 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 11.8 seconds, and a top speed of 190mph. I’m guessing that’s with the top up. The Collector Edition 427 Convertible sits on 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch wheels in back and pulls 1.04g on the skid pad. Additionally, the convertible 427 incorporates a carbon fiber hood, fenders and floor panels to reduce weight.
The 427 Collector Edition, as well as all 2013 Corvettes, will be available in a 60th Anniversary Package in Arctic White with a “Blue Diamond” leather wrapped interior. Additional 60th Anniversary features include a ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging, gray-painted brake calipers and the “60th” logo on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests. The convertibles will have a blue top, as well.
The first Corvette 427 Convertible offered to the public will be sold at the Barret-Jackson auction and the proceeds will benefit the Drive to End Hunger food relief program.
