2015 Chevrolet Corvette v. 2016 Dodge Viper ACR on Head 2 Head
It’s Kinda Like Batman v. Superman on Wheels
First of all, I just want to say I love Head 2 Head! They always have a great match ups and the camera work rocks! I told you about the ACR in a recent post (and salivated a little while writing it). And once again, Motor Trend and the guys at Head 2 Head do not disappoint with this match up of two American beasts, the 2015 Corvette Z06 and the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR. It’s kinda like Batman v. Superman on wheels. All of that being said, spoiler alert below so you should watch the video before reading further.
ACR Kicks Butt, But Go Home With The Z06
Call me old-fashioned, but I’m not a big fan of things like traction control and paddle-shifters. Where’s the challenge and the fun in driving a car that is doing the driving for you, right? Don’t get me wrong, when you’re getting into the 500+ horsepower range, traction control is a no-brainer if you want to keep your machine in one piece. But you’ve got to be able to turn it off and use the force, so to speak, for real driving.
And that’s where the ACR shines. With traction control turned, the Head 2 Head guys are gushing at how well the ACR sticks to the road and is able to actually deliver all of that V-10 power to the pavement instead of breaking the back wheels loose. The car was designed for monstrous down force and the Head 2 Head video shows it. But, as is the case with most high performance cars, life with the ACR off the track isn’t quite so great.
That’s where the Z06 shows its GM pedigree. If there’s one thing that GM has consistently done for decades, it’s to deliver performance cars that you can live with. The Z06 is both a high performance beast that is difficult to tame with traction control turned off and yet more driveable on a daily basis than the ACR. So while the ACR was the clear winner at the track, the Z06 is the one that you will actually be able to live with. Personally, I want them both.
