Ferrari F12berlinetta

Ferrari debuted the new F12berlinetta at the Geneva Auto Show recently, marking  what Ferrari says is a new generation of V12 Ferraris.  Thanks to dashboard and seat placement that sits lower in the chasis and new suspension and gearbox layout that has helped reduce the car’s rear volume, the F12berlinetta is shorter, lower, and narrower than the previous V12 coupe.  The car boasts ideal weight distribution with 54% over the rear axle, as well as a lower center of gravity that is further back in the chassis.  That chassis is an all-new spaceframe design that employs 12 different aluminum alloys and through new assembly and joining techniques the overall weight has been limited to 1525 kg (that’s 3363 lbs for the metrically challenged) but torsional rigidity has been increased by 20%.

Of course, all that is fine and dandy and no doubt provides phenomenal handling, but it’s the 200 bar direct-injection 6262cc 65 degree V12 that makes this Pininfarina beauty fly.  Boasting 740hp and 690 lb-ft of torque, the F12berlinetta exemplifies what really fast really is.  Zero to sixty mph in about 3 seconds flat and 0-100mph in less than 8 seconds, all the while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 30%.  That’s just bad ass.

I'm one of those guys that "talks about cars too much", the history, design and engineering, I can go on forever. I finally decided blogging might be a better outlet for my obsession than dinner dates. I enjoy learning, sharing and, of course, driving!
