Hot Wheels® Edition Camaro

2012SEMA-Camaro-HotWheels01-medium

The Hot Wheels®  Edition Camaro debuted at the 2012 SEMA Show in Las Vegas today.  Chevrolet says production will be limited a special production run  in early 2013 and that will be all.  The Hot Wheels® Camaro will be available as a coupe or convertible and will be available in 2 LT and 2 SS trims that borrow from the ZL1.

Exterior highlights include:

  • Hot Wheels® grille and decklid logos
  • ZL1 rear spoiler (coupe)
  • 21-inch Hot Wheels® styled red outline rims
  • ZL1 front upper grille
  • Ground effects package, including front splitter and rocker treatment
  • Two-tone matte hood graphic and rear taillight panel “blackout” graphic
  • Fender “flame” graphics

On the inside there’s more Hot Wheels® graphics.  The black leather-trimmed interior is accented with red and black seat stitching with the Hot Wheels® logo embroidered on the front seats. The instrument panel and door inserts are black, with the Hot Wheels-style flame decal on each door.  The Hot Wheels® Edition sill plates and Camaro-logo premium floor mats with red edging round out the special Hot Wheels® interior accents.

That’s all fine and dandy, but what’s under the hood?  SS models feature a 6.2L V-8, which comes in two flavors: the “L99” on automatic-equipped vehicles and the “LS3” on manual-equipped models. Horsepower for the L99 is 400 (298 kW) and torque is 410 lb.-ft. (556 Nm) – and it features fuel-saving Active Fuel Management. The LS3 develops 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 Nm) of torque.

LT-based models feature the “LFX” 3.6L V-6 engine, with dual-overhead camshafts, variable valve timing and direct injection. It’s rated at 323 horsepower at 6,800 rpm.  Not too shabby for a V-6.

Chevy is also offering a dual-mode exhaust system on SS models with the six-speed manual transmission, as well as LT models with either the manual or automatic transmission. Similar to the systems found on the Camaro ZL1, the vacuum-actuated system provides a quieter driving experience at low engine speeds and growl during hard acceleration.

Chevrolet says the Hot Wheels® Camaro will only be available in Kinetic Blue with black accents (pictured), although I think red, gold and purple color options would be appropriate for a Hot Wheels theme. None the less, the car looks bad ass and has the right stuff to back up all of those Hot Wheels® graphics, both as a V-6 and a V-8.
