Ferrari Drops The Top On The 458

With Ferrari the hits always seem to keep on coming and the 458 Spider is no different. Although based on the 458 Italia, this car is not simply a convertible version of the 458 conceived as an afterthought. Rather, the Spider is a design with both the convertible top and legendary Ferrari performance in every aspect, top up or down. Aside from sharing engine, transmission, and suspension with the 458 Italia, the Spider boasts an all-aluminum hard top that “deploys” in fourteen seconds. The chassis was designed to ensure equal rigidity with the top either up or down. To dispel any questions as to what makes a Ferrari convertible so special, the 458 Spider comes equipped with an adjustable electric wind stop which Ferrari boasts enables normal conversation even at speeds over 200km/h (that’s about 125mph for those of us Stateside).
