Tron Lightcycle Goes Electric
As if creating a real, functional Tron Lightcycle against all conventional wisdom wasn’t bad ass enough, the crew at Parker Brothers Choppers in Florida have upped their own game once more by making an all-electric version of the bike. The all-new Electric Tron Lightcycle is powered by a 96 volt electric motor running on lithium ion batteries. Top speed is over 100 mph, and its range is 100 miles on a single charge, requiring only 35 minutes to recharge. Not only is it fast, it’s fast-charging! No pricing info yet, but you can order one of the original gas-powered versions for $55,000. While that sounds pricey for us regular folk, you’ve got to give these guys credit for flexing some serious engineering chops, creating a bad ass ride and being green all in one package. It’s amazing that there are all of these big motorcycle, ATV and auto manufacturers out there with billions of dollars and the top engineers at their disposal, but out of all of them combined there is only one electric car (the Nissan Leaf) and no electric motorbikes available from them in the U.S. market. Yet here is a custom bike shop, a relatively miniscule operation compared to the likes of GM, Ford, etc., that was able to put out an electric bike that has the speed, charge capacity and low enough re-charge time that it can be a practical replacement for gas-powered transportation. Makes you wonder why the big companies, with their vast resources, haven’t started churning something like this out already. Somebody give these guys a reality show!
