2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang Available Now
The 2013 Shelby GT 500 Mustang is now available from Ford. True to the Shelby name, this car is all bad ass. As you would expect, the GT500 sports more aggressive lines and options than a regular Mustang. But the real story is right where it should be, under the hood. With a 5.8 liter supercharged aluminum block V8 producing 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of torque, the new GT500 is the most powerful production Mustang ever made. In its press release, Ford quotes one of its engineers, “This car makes so much power and torque that we had to go through the entire driveline system to ensure it moves to the wheels in a manageable way.” To that end the GT500 has been fitted with such upgrades as a single-piece carbon fiber drive shaft, higher torque and rpm clutch and upgraded gears with a final drive ratio of 3.31:1. Running Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 tires on 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch wheels on the back, the Shelby GT500 has a reported top speed of “over 200mph”. All the while, the GT500 is still able to dodge the gas guzzler tax with estimated 15mpg city and 24mpg highway. That’s 5mpg better than the Camaro ZL1. Other goodies rounding out the list of extras on the GT500 are Brembo six-piston front caliper brakes, Recaro seats, and a 4.2 inch display for accessing such cool features as a christmas tree app so you can hone your reaction times for the drag strip.
